Connection with self, connection with others, connection to my emotions, connection to my thoughts, connection to my experiences. Connection is one of the things that makes me feel most human, and it is this collection of connections that informs, and guides me through my life.

During the year 2020, I finally had the time to connect with my community... except that, due to the insane pandemic racing across our planet making human contact unsafe and scary... I couldn’t.

At least not the way I want to.

It’s madness, all of it, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.

As a result of Covid-19’s recommended social distancing, social media and technology, in turn became even more useful/powerful/annoying tools in my life.  Tools for connection... and in many cases disconnection.

It’s the space between those two topics that was the genesis of what I am exploring through this project, DIS/connected Connections. An exploration of OUR disconnected community and how we attempt to make connections to ourselves, and to our extended network... of humans!

~~

After 6 months of filtered virtual friendships, it felt natural to do this project. For it to be done right, I knew it would have to be in person. To physically photograph, on my iPhone, these humans I care about, respect, and love. To capture them at this moment, in their space, face to masked face.

In the age of information, disinformation, or whatever the hell time period we are in now...I was inspired to strip each person down as much as I could, then by asking the same questions to everyone find the connections through how each of us relates to;

 “BEING”, “CONNECTION/CONNECTED”, and “BEING HUMAN”

To further explore how we engage with social media, I took everyone's response and connected it to someone else, curious how these words would take on new meaning.

No one is tagged - to remove some prejudice, and to create a space where connection, conversation, and curiosity takes over.

~~~
To see, and really be seen, I think that is one of life's great gifts.
Maybe for a moment, we can see each other where we are, presently.
For two weeks, starting on October 13 2020, I posted images of 41 humans who influenced my Instagram feed throughout the pandemic. These individuals, most who do not know each other personally, are connecting to each other daily through a recycling of posts, repost, images, stories, and opinions, all taking on new meaning and life with each cycle.
